Bournemouth Area Ordinariate Group

The Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham serves the area of West Hampshire and East Dorset. The Catholic Bishop of Portsmouth has agreed that the Ordinariate parish will share the Catholic church of Our Lady Queen of Peace, Douglas Road, Southbourne, Bournemouth BH6 3ER. Fr Graham A J Smith is pastor of the Group and is assisted by Fr Edwin Barnes (a former Bishop of Richborough) and Fr Brian Copus.

During the preparation of the Group to be received into the Catholic Church, the Group will attend St Joseph’s Church, Purewell, Christchurch for Mass on Sundays at 11.15 followed by catechesis at 12.30pm. The Rite of Election will take place at St John’s Catholic Cathedral at 11am on Saturday 12^th March. The Group will be Received and Chrismated on Maundy Thursday 21^st April at 5pm in St Joseph’s Christchurch.

Fr Edwin Barnes was ordained to the Catholic priesthood on 5^th March. Fr Graham Smith begins a course of formation in Lent with a view to ordination to Catholic priesthood on 25^th June in St John’s Cathedral Portsmouth.

Events:

8^th March – Concelebrated Solemn Mass at 7pm at Our Lady Queen of Peace followed by a Shrove Tuesday Supper (including Wine).

12^th March – Rite of Election in St John’s Catholic Cathedral, Portsmouth at 11am.

Pray for the Ordinariates

Eternal Father, we place before you the project of forming the Personal Ordinariates for Anglicans seeking full communion with the Catholic Church.

We thank you for this initiative of Pope Benedict XVI, and we ask that, through the Holy Spirit,
the Ordinariates may become:
families of charity, peace and the service of the poor, centres for Christian unity and reconciliation, communities that welcome and evangelize, teaching the Faith in all its fullness, celebrating the liturgy and sacraments with prayerful reverence and maintaining a distinctive patrimony of Christian faith and culture.

Drawing on that heritage we pray:

Go before us, O Lord,
in all our doings
with thy most gracious favour,

and finally by thy mercy
